Coop Inauguration

We finally got the chickens moved out to the coop today and they are having a ball out there. They are not used to having so much room to run around. The coop is about 13×15 feet and just tall enough for us to walk around in without crouching. They will be confined in the coop for a week or two to learn that it’s their new home, and then we will let them out in a fenced yard during the daytime.

They sure found the new feeder quickly. I made this using a 5 gallon bucket and the saucer for under a large flower pot. Total cost around $5 versus about $30 for a feeder from the farm store.

We did decide to buy a commercial made waterer, it appeared to be very sturdy and we didnt want to risk having a home-made one leak all over the coop.

Weve been trying to spend a few minutes every day playing with the birds so they will be used to being handled. This Brahma hen decided that my knee would be a good perch.
